About the ECS Parent Community Organization

The Parent Community Organization was founded in the summer of 2008, shortly before Imagine Environmental Charter School opened its doors to students in August 2008. All parents and guardians of current ECS students are automatically PCO members, as are all school employees and Board of Trustees members.  Any interested community member is also welcome to be involved in the PCO as a member.

History
The first edition of the PCO newsletter, comPOST, featured an article about the history and founding of the PCO.

Meetings
Meetings are held during the 4th week of each month throughout the school year.  See our calendar for specific dates. The meeting is held on different days of the week each month to accommodate a variety of parents' schedules.

Mini-Grants
The PCO has established a fund for ECS faculty, administration, staff, parents and community members to cover the costs of special school projects.   Learn how to apply for funding.

COMMITTEES

Executive Committee  parents@ecspco.org
The Executive Committee consists of thirteen seats, all of which are filled by parents of children currently enrolled as students at ECS. In accordance with the mission of the PCO, the Executive Committee shall: direct and plan the activities of the PCO in general; coordinate the specific efforts and activities of PCO committees and initiatives; facilitate communication within the school community (Board of Trustees, employees, and parents); and carry out all routine tasks necessary for the fulfillment of the PCO mission.

Fundraising Committee  fundraising@ecspco.org
The Fundraising Committee plans and organizes unique fundraisers, following the school's mission and reflecting the values of ECS, by utilizing not only the traditional standbys like Box Tops and Giant Eagle Apples for Students points, but also possibly sales of green, fair-trade and organic products.

Newsletter Committee  newsletter@ecspco.org
The Newsletter Committee publishes comPOST, a bi-monthly newsletter which serves as forum for communication among the PCO, ECS parents, ECS students and the school administration, as well as to the surrounding communities.

Parent Involvement Committee  parentinvolvement@ecspco.org
The Parent Involvement Committee organizes parents to aid in the daily operations of the school. The vital roles within this committee will be room parents, volunteers for outings and field work, and other needs ECS may have that parents can fulfill.

Social Committee  social@ecspco.org
The Social Committee serves to provide social and community events that will meet one of the following criteria: build in school relationships, build community relationships, and fundraise for particular needs determined by the PCO to be needed. We will aid other PCO committees, and school staff when social events become part of their tasks.
