Sign up to send in supplies, donate a pie or volunteer for the Upper School Harvest Feast on Tuesday, November 20.
Thank you to everyone that came to the PCO’s first ever Volunteer and Activity Fair! It was great to see both new faces and really connect with all of the committees that make our school hum! I feel honored to work alongside so many dedicated volunteers! Thank you to ECS’s Ali Rendulic, Kristan Abeshouse and Aaron Coleman for taking the time to connect with us! Here are a few of the committees that didn’t get much or any love for you to consider:
Yearbook – would you like ECS to have a yearbook next year? If so, we need you! The school can help with some photo wrangling but they really need the PCO volunteers to put it all together. Work with the manufacturer, take orders, distribute… it will be a fun, year round project!
Bike ECS – come join the 6th grade on their bike rides every morning (except Wednesdays) from 10:15-11:15. Be an extra set of eyes to keep them safe! Email bikeECS@ecspgh.org to learn more and sign up!
Lost and Found – both schools. Help out when you can by sorting the massive collection of stuff, look for labeled items, return those items (with the help of our great office managers) and periodically display the non-labeled items for easy collection.
Grade Level Reps – k and middle school reps need. Meetings are held 9am-10:15am on the 1st Wed. of the month in the ECS US Cafe. Learn more here.
Winter Chill – Jan. 12. Looking for a few people to help plan the grown up only social event/ chili cook off event!
Edible School Yard – year round help on a weekly basis with grades 2 and 3. Contact Deirdre Keller to learn more!
Plant Sales – learn the ropes to keep these great plant sales running at ECS as our past chairs no longer have kiddos at ECS. Support will be readily available to help you succeed! We have one new chair and could use another!
Room Parents – these classes would like a co-room parent: 5A, 5C, 6A, 7A, 7B and 7C.
Book Fair – leaders needed! The school is looking to expand their available book selections for our middle schoolers and to do that they need volunteers to run a book fair! Sell books to make money for new books! Last year’s Scholastic book fair raised $1800. The date is November 6 (set up on the 5th) and would be held at the Upper School during conferences.
There are a lot of other great committees at ECS that would love to have you! Please consider joining us!
Beth Lott, PCO Volunteer Coordinator
There are many ways you can help enrich our children’s ECS experience. With the variety of volunteers we need, there are opportunities to fit everyone’s interests and schedules. Please fill out our volunteer form or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
Join the PCO Steering Committee! The PCO is organized and operated by a Steering Committee. We are looking for new members to help shape this school year… to work together to plan and organize meetings, brainstorm ideas, spear-head fundraising efforts, plan fun events, and more. We’d love to welcome some new faces to this friendly team. Contact email@example.com.
Thank You! On behalf of the PCO, thank you to all of our volunteers! Every volunteer is greatly appreciated… whether you were a room parent or helped in the classroom, planned or helped at an event, or even “just” sent things in for your teachers or staff appreciation. You gave your time and support to make ECS a better place for our teachers, staff, and students. We will have some big shoes to fill next year due to moves and graduation. The PCO will be hosting a volunteer fair at the start of the year and you can learn about where you can plug in your time and talent. Thank you! We are truly lucky to have wonderful, engaged families at ECS! For a sneak peek at the upcoming volunteer opportunities, see our 2018-2019 sign-up form.
The PCO thanks the volunteers, led by Erika Bruce, that planned and worked Staff Appreciation Week! Thank you to Legume, Point Brugge and Brassero Grill for donating food to the luncheons. The staff members were also able to enjoy massages by Emily Escalante, LMT, and salon services by Corinne (ECS mom) and Theresa from Philip Pelusi. The PCO is grateful to all the families that were involved with making it a great week!
We are no longer able to accept Staff Appreciation Week donations. Thank you to all of our generous donors!
1. Contribute decorations, serving bowls, pie, cider, and/or your volunteer time. Get details and sign up: Lower School and Upper School
2. Make a donation instead of shopping for pie or apple cider.
Thank you for all of the generous contributions!
This year’s Fall Festival will celebrate the ECS community’s cultural diversity with demonstrations and activities representing our families from around the world. Also, don’t miss pick-up sports, uniform reuse sale, bake sale, food trucks, and more!
Friday, October 6, 2017, 5-8 p.m. at the Upper School

Volunteering your time with the PCO is an inexpensive way to meet the needs of our school, make an effective contribution to your child’s school experience, and show your child that you value their interests. There are opportunities to fit everyone’s interests and schedules. Some committees that especially need help this year are:
Staff Appreciation – Help is needed both year-round and for Staff Appreciation week (May).
Gingerbread House Event – Help plan, shop or volunteer at the event on December 2 so families can enjoy a day of creativity and merriment.
Blooming Bash – We are currently assessing whether we have adequate volunteer commitments and availability to hold this fun adults-only fundraising event next spring.
Mini Grants – Help us review mini-grant submissions four times a year and decide what to recommend for approval.
Urban Ecostewards – This group of volunteers maintains a Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy site in Frick Park and keeps it free of invasive plants. Training provided; kids and adults welcome during our after-school or weekend sessions.
To sign up, fill out the volunteer form.
We are always open to great new ideas! Email email@example.com.
Anyone who works or volunteers with students at ECS must have these three clearances on file: PA Child Abuse Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, Federal Criminal Background Check. Read more about the requirements and instructions for filing for your clearances.
