2021 Spring Plant Sale

This year’s sale has ended. Thank you for your support.

ECS’s annual Spring Flower & Plant Sale is back in time for Mother’s Day and Spring planting with a bonus this year – contactless curbside pickup! Annual bedding flowers, a variety of beautiful hanging baskets, and patio planters will be available from the same vendor that Phipps Conservatory uses. We are also offering organic vegetable, herb, milkweed, and native pollinator seedlings from Grow Pittsburgh.

Order here: https://ecspco.square.site/shop/plant-sale/29

Order deadline: Sunday, April 18, 2021

Plants will be available for contactless curbside pick-up ONLY: Friday, May 7, 2021 between 1:00pm and 6:30pm at the ECS INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL (829 Milton Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15218). There will only be one day to pick up the plants so please mark this day on your calendar. Your online order confirmation may list your address as the “shipping address,” but plants will not be shipped. All plants must be picked up on May 7. We ask that you pull up to the curb in front of Turtle Park (just past the Intermediate School), stay in your car, inform the volunteer of your name through your car window, and pop your trunk. The volunteer will load your items into your trunk.

Lots of volunteers are needed on May 7 to pull this off! We have designed a safety plan to ensure compliance with government orders and to keep our valued volunteers safe. See more details on the sign-up sheet. Sign up here.

If you have any questions, please email Michelle at plantsale@ecspco.org.

Recording Available – February 17 General PCO Meeting

Thank you to all parents, teachers, and staff (over 150 of you!) who attended the 2/17/2021 General PCO Meeting. It was wonderful to hear from many voices, hear important perspectives, and see many faces in one place.

Please remember that ALL PCO meetings are open to our entire community. All are welcome and encouraged to attend. We plan to keep a virtual component to meetings in the future, even when we are able to safely meet again in person.

We are pleased to share a full recording of the meeting here.

Moderator Help Needed! – ECS Transportation Connections Facebook group

Last school year, the PCO set up the private ECS Transportation Connections Facebook group, a forum where caregivers and staff can share and discuss school-related transportation information and questions.

We need to transition the group to some parent volunteers willing to moderate it, and keep tabs on transportation issues. The time commitment is minimal, especially if there are a few moderators to check in once in a while, and approve new members as needed. As we transition to in-person learning, we anticipate an increased need for and interest in transportation communication.

If you can step up to help, please send a message via the PCO Facebook page, or e-mail newsletter@ecspco.org. You can find the private group here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/ecstransportation. New members must answer a few quick questions before being approved.

Calling all Artists! Submit your yearbook cover design!

Students are invited to submit a yearbook cover design by Sunday, Feb.28. It must be 8.5 x 11″ in portrait orientation and contain the text “ECS 2020-2021”. Take a clear picture of your design, or save it as a .pdf, and send it to yearbook@ecspco.org. No scanner or phone, you can also mail it to ECS PCO, 5539 Pocusset St, Pittsburgh, PA 15217.

Please hold onto the original. If we choose their design, we will need it to do a high quality scan. We want their artwork in the best possible presentation.

ECS at Home: Photos Requested

We hope everyone is doing well! First off, we miss all the smiling faces of our ECS community. Really, really miss them.

Secondly, the K-5 Yearbook Committee would love to see those smiling faces of “ECS at Home”. We will be filling some of the pages of the K-5 Yearbook with your lovely smiling faces while you are at home.

Please send a photo of your kiddos to yearbook@ecspco.org. For classification and sorting purposes, please put name(s) and home base(s) in the email.

Finally, you are doing a fantastic job. Keep it up ECS!

2019 Winter Chill

Welcome to the Winter Chill!
6:30-9:30pm on Saturday January 12th at the Wilkins School Community Center.

This free event is sponsored by the PCO and open to all adult members of the ECS community. This is your chance to really get to know your fellow parents! Our event hosts can help you make connections!

We’ll have delicious chili for you to sample and vote on, a great chance to meet new friends and connect with old, a fun place to spend a dreary winter night, and lots more! Book your sitter and plan to attend! Or make it a ladies/guys night out and skip the sitter!

New this year We have a list of several ECS middle schoolers and alumni that you can reach out to for babysitting help!

RSVPs are a must due to space limitations and to help us plan.

If you can make it, please sign up to bring an item. We obviously need chili! Several vegetarian ones would be great! Don’t forget – the less the event costs the PCO, the more money we have to support the teachers via things like staff appreciation and mini-grants!
